Christmas Mincemeat


Christmas Mincemeat (Anna Wynne)

Make your own filling for mince pies.

This is from BBC Good Food, but Granny Wynne’s is similar

Ingredients

  • 250 g Holsum
  • 250 g currants
  • 250 g seedless raisins
  • 250 g sultanas
  • 250 g castor sugar
  • 250 g apples
  • 1 heaped tsp mixed spice
  • 62,5 g mixed peel
  • grated rind of 1 lemon (zest)
  • brandy to taste

Method

  1. Peel and core apples.
  2. Chop finely (do not mince).
  3. Mince all other fruit.
  4. Grate Holsum.
  5. Add sugar, zest and mixed spice.
  6. Mix very well.
  7. Add as much brandy as you think it needs (¼ cup or more).
  8. Put in jars (±6).
