Apple Tart


Granny Smith apples

1 small tin pie apples OR 3 or 4 Granny Smith apples, with little water, cooked, well drained, cooled
a few cloves
a sprinkling of sugar
6 heaped Tbsp flour
4 heaped Tbsp butter
2 level Tbsp sugar
pinch of salt
½ tsp BP
1 egg, beaten
squeeze of lemon
2-3 Tbsp cold water


  1. Set oven to 200 °C.
  2. Sift flour, sugar, BP and salt.
  3. Rub in butter.
  4. Add beaten egg and liquid. Mix well.
  5. Divide into two and roll.
  6. Line plate with half, add apple and cover with other half.
  7. Trim and cut a few slits.
  8. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and sprinkle with sugar.
  10. Serve with cream, custard or plain milk.
